NC State Fair "Honorable Mention" 2013... Hurray

7 years in a row I have entered the NC State Fair "Hoobies & Craft" display. Every year I have taken home a ribbon. This year I entered a hand shaped bowl. The clay is from Star, N.C. The clay is a rich beautiful red color. It really makes the glaze pop. The glazes are Mandarin Orange and Power Turquoise. The clay is very hard to work with as it is heavy with grogg (minerals) to make it stay strong. However the results are rich and handsome. Enjoy!!

Studio

The carport.... yes This is where I create, make and fire all the pottery. It consists of a worktable, slabroller, kiln, drying and storage cabinet. The seasons dictate when I can work. Timing is everything. Spring and Fall is the best time to work outside. Summer months it is to hot and then the clay melts. In the winter the clay can freeze, plus when you work with cold clay your fingers become icickles.
