North Carolina State Fair Entry 2009

"IGGY" is here.
This Kitsch creature has been on my mind and sitting on my finger tips for a long time. In early August I started this sculpture. It did not take long. I knew what I wanted. Of course it is a garden creature. Just like the troll at the front door. Glazing came out really well. I like colors..But you never know what will come out when the kiln gods take over. I used several glazes... redwood matte is the base, wheat, green tweed, royal blue, Turkish amber, textured
moonscape and power turquoise for the eyes. To get the texture I used my hands the best tools The front is all textured with my knuckles and the back are my fingers. I used a pocket knife, from Uncle Sep to carve details. I am very excited about this since it has been awhile since I was back at the studio....

Studio

The carport.... yes This is where I create, make and fire all the pottery. It consists of a worktable, slabroller, kiln, drying and storage cabinet. The seasons dictate when I can work. Timing is everything. Spring and Fall is the best time to work outside. Summer months it is to hot and then the clay melts. In the winter the clay can freeze, plus when you work with cold clay your fingers become icickles.
