NC State Fair 2009

A North Carolina State Fair beautiful pink fourth place ribbon, was awarded to me!! I entered in the Hobby & Craft professional level. I submitted a grouping of 5 figurines: St. Lucia, Star- boy, Tomte, Owl, Tree. It made for a very nice grouping.
The fun part was that this was a total surprise. Nick and I went on a Sunday morning to see if our work was on display. I knew that I had to check the hobby building and sure enough a pink ribbon was next to my work. Well this did not end here.

I had also submitted my green "To be green" bowl to be jured in the Arts Section at the professional level. The Scott Building exhibits all the art and photography. Maybe my bowl is on display? Surrounded by juried paintings on the black pedastal is my bowl. I am sharing this large pedastal with other artists. A volunteer explained to me, that most of the 3-D work had been put away in a closet. This means that,Even though I did not get a ribbon. I was not jured out. Pretty coolWhat I am so proud of is that all these art works were judged for the sculptural quality. That means my bowl is a sculpture that is functional. CRAZYYYY!!!! That is really my goal.

Studio

The carport.... yes This is where I create, make and fire all the pottery. It consists of a worktable, slabroller, kiln, drying and storage cabinet. The seasons dictate when I can work. Timing is everything. Spring and Fall is the best time to work outside. Summer months it is to hot and then the clay melts. In the winter the clay can freeze, plus when you work with cold clay your fingers become icickles.
